What Is The IDV Court?

Integrated Domestic Violence (IDV) Courts are New York’s attempt to streamline the legal process for individuals and families where domestic violence is an issue.

IDV Judges are qualified to hear and rule on cases from several courts, including criminal court, family court, and divorce court.

By applying the one family-one judge approach, the goal is to make access to the legal system a simpler, more consistent, and less confusing experience.

Eligible cases are those that include a criminal domestic violence case, a family court case, a divorce case, or both of the last two.

We’ve helped many clients through IDV court, and the attorneys at Zelenitz, Shapiro & D’Agostino have the same breadth of experience and legal disciplines that the judges who hear the cases do.
